My Role Models

The first person I would like to talk about is David Fincher. He is a director and the co-founder of Propaganda Films. Fincher is one of my biggest idols in life right now because he has done so much work in the film industry that I only hope to achieve on similar levels. He is a master of all aspects of technical direction, and the reason for this is his background. He has worked his way up the Hollywood ladder since he was a young adult. He has the stick-to-it·ive·ness that I am trying to aspire to, and in my opinion has made some of the best thriller and drama films of the past two centuries. I hope to work my way up the same ladder in the same ways that he has. He has always believed that one should be working on set and get as much hands-on experience as they can with all the technical aspects of the film production process.  I think I would want to write my own screenplays, which Fincher does not often do, so that I can be more immersed in the story I am trying to bring to the big screen. He also has good relationships with the people he works with. Although he pushes his actors to their limits and makes sure his film and editing crew work very hard, this is to make them realize his vision. Another person I admire who sees the same problem in the future that I have talked about is Quentin Tarantino. Film is his life, as well as cinema. The two go hand in hand, and he believes that people should want to go out to see a movie in a theater. I worry that theaters will close down soon because of online streaming services, and I hope that I can work to make a better future in the film industry in the same way that Tarantino does. He did not have the formal education that most people in the industry do. He dropped out of high school and never went to film school, but was able to make such amazing films by writing screenplays to support himself financially and eventually produced and directed his first feature film with these earnings. He also realizes that the filmmaking process is a team process. He recognizes everyones’ talent and talks about how grateful he is to work with certain people, whether it be his editors, cinematographers, gaffers, actors, and everyone else. Everyone should realize that achieving your dreams takes an entire team of effort, and this is something I have come to realize. Although I can’t know every small detail about the filmmaking process, like Fincher, I can work with others who have the same passion I do like Tarantino.
