The Big Question

My big question is “how will film entertainment shape and change our world in the future?” I wonder everyday if there will be even more streaming services than there are now, more mediocre movies being sent out everyday, more Oscar and Emmy upsets than ever before. I look back to the past, to the beginnings of film and think about what made it so special. Why did people take time out of their free Friday night to go see something for 2 hours they never knew anything about with a bunch of strangers in a dark room with one screen? For the past two centuries or so, film has developed like nothing we have ever seen in history. How does film create pop-culture which then shapes human culture? No matter the opinions we all have on different film genres, we all love film in one form or another. Whether or not we believe that films should be created in order to present moral and philosophical questions for us to think about when we leave the theater, or simply believe that films should be flimsily structured, action packed, endorphin induced masses of pictures, there is something special about this medium of art that creates connections within all of us. I worry about the future of film, and television, and wonder if artists will be able to express themselves in a world that is shaping film from an artistic endeavor to a financial exploit. I wonder if people will get bored with what they have been given, and if they will accept mediocrity. And finally, with technological advancements, how will people begin to experience this art form in a manner different from physical reality? Will they be able to truly feel what is happening on screen in a more advanced manner than 4D? All of these questions can only be answered with time, and I hope that I can be one of many to kee the legacy of film alive, and hopefully create a revolution of some sort of what film is really about.
